Weigh-in Thursday

0.8 pounds!

Back to back strong weeks have got me closer than ever to my goal of 175 pounds! It's been a long time coming, but I can finally see the finish line in sight!

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.8 pounds!

Lately it seems as if my weight is controlled by a yo-yo. Some weeks I'm 179, the next I'm in the low 178's. Hopefully next week I'll break the cycle and get past the 178 barrier!

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.7 pounds gained

Cheesecake, Banana Splits, a pint of ice cream... all part of my birthday celebration... yet I only gained 0.7 pounds. I'll take that amount every week!

Back on the wagon this week as I head towards 175!

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.9 pounds!

Back to losing this week. I have till Sunday to reach my goal of 175 by my birthday (unlikely) but I'll definitely keep working at it till I finally reach it.

While I may not reach my goal by the target date, I've come to appreciate the journey I've been on from when I really got serious with my diet this past January.

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.1 pounds gained

Not much going on this week in terms of weight loss. On the bright side, I was able to stay under 180 for back to back weeks for the very first time! On the negative side... it looks like it'll be harder and harder to hit 175 by July 22 as I originally planned.

Weigh-in Thursday

1.4 pounds!

Not a bad number for the July 4th holiday! Back in the 170's... this time I hope it's permanent!

Weigh-in Wednesday

No change in weight

Certainly not the best news ever... but no change in weight is always better than a gain, right? Haven't been to the gym in a few weeks as life has been a bit hectic; but if I want to get back on track, I think a trip to ACAC will be in short order.

Weigh-in Wednesday

2.3 pounds gained

Well. That's no good. Can't say I'm very surprised, though. When you overeat and don't work out... your body tends to pack on the pounds. Thankfully the damaged wasn't so bad that it'll take weeks and weeks to catch up... but it's a good reminder that if I want to reach my goal of 175 by July 22, I have to keep my diet in check.

Weigh-in Wednesday

2.7 pounds!

Happy days are here again! Big week for me as I finally break into the 170s! While it hasn't always been easy, I'm now just 3.2 pounds away from my goal of 175 pounds. If I can reach that by July 22 (my birthday) I can't think of a better gift to give myself.

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.6 pounds gained

Not a good week. Ate too much, didn't exercise enough... and I put on weight. Then again, it's less than a pound and I think I'll survive.

Onward and upwards to better results next week... right?

Weigh-in Wednesday

1.3 pounds!

FINALLY! It feels so good to get on the scale and see a loss... but it is especially gratifying after two weeks without any positive movement on the scale!

So close to my goal of 175 (5.3 pounds)... but even closer to getting under 180!

What I've truly learned these past two weeks is that I just need to keep on working out and eating right... and the results will come, even if they're a bit delayed!

Weigh-in Wednesday

No change in weight

What in the wide world of sports is going on here? Two disappointing weeks in a row? I've definitely hit a plateau in the weight loss game... just have to keep on working hard, and continue to hope the weight will eventually start dropping again.

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.2 pounds gained

Well, the day finally came.

After having not gained weight since January 25, a span of over three months, I finally gained weight. I really was disappointed in the weight gain this week... but then I took a step back and accessed my progress, and realized I can't be too upset with this TEMPORARY setback. And that's all this is, temporary, because I'm not going to stop working till I hit my target weight.

So here's to a better number next week, and starting another string of losses for the next three months.

Weigh-in Wednesday

2.6 pounds!

So, it's not 1.6 pounds, but I think it's pretty good! Amazing how I'm starting to lose weight again after a few weeks of very small loses. Truth be told, I can't remember the last time I was this weight... but I still have work to do, so I'll keep working at it!

Weigh-in Wednesday

1.6 pounds!

Back to back weeks of losing 1.6 pounds really has me in a good mood! This week was a lot of exercising, so I actually felt like I earned the weight loss, compared to last week where I slacked off! Not to be greedy... but sure would be nice for a third straight loss of 1.6 pounds next week!

One can only hope.

Weigh-in Wednesday

1.6 pounds!

Didn't workout at all this week, ate bad and in general was lazy. Still lost 1.6 pounds anyways. Who doesn't deserve some luck now and again?

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.6 pounds!

A week after posting my lowest weight loss so far, I get back on track this week with a little over half a pound off the scale!

Especially proud of this weight as I survived Easter where I definitely had my fill of candy, cake and cookies.

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.3 pounds!

Was bummed to see ONLY a loss of 0.3 pounds this week. Really got after it in the gym and tried to eat right... but after losing 1.7 last week, I can't complain too much. Just another step in the march to 175!

Weigh-in Wednesday

1.9 pounds!

What a week! After a few less than stellar results, to see 1.9 pounds lost this past week is something worth celebrating. What else is worth celebrating? I've finally lost 30 pounds from my start weight of 219.5!

Sometimes the grind to lose weight doesn't feel worth it, especially when you'd rather just eat and eat and eat... but seeing the results on the scale has truly been my ultimate reward.

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.8 pounds!

Back to back weeks with less than one pound drops, but I'm getting closer to the 30 pound mark, which I'll hit at 189.5. I wouldn't say I've plateaued, but sometimes it feels that way! Still, it's a pleasant feeling to see a weight loss, regardless of how little I lose.

Big weekend ahead with The Hunger Games coming out! Anyone else excited?!

Weigh-in Wednesday

0.9 pounds!

Slow week for my weight loss. But a loss is a loss is a loss is a loss. That's what they say, right?

Who is they, anyways?

Weigh-in Wednesday

1 pound!

It's that time of the week again. The blog post you've all been waiting for... Weigh-in Wednesday!

Can one be disappointed in losing weight? If they can, count me as one of them. This week I was pretty strict on the diet... even fine tuning my protein/carbs/fat ratios and I still lost just a single pound. Progress is progress though, so I'm grateful for the loss.

Back to the drawing board for the rest of the week in search of losing weight a bit more efficiently next week.

It snowed; I took pictures

Had a lite dusting of snow this morning... Seeing as this has been a rare occurrence lately, I decided to try my hand at taking some photos. Below are the results.

Feel free to unfriend after viewing my "attempts" at photography.

As for the rest of the week? Well, it's certainly not what I'd expect from winter in Virginia... but I think I'll survive.

Weigh-in Wednesday

2.1 pounds!

Another week, another loss! Add in the 2.1 lbs from this week, and that gives me a total of... drum roll, please... 25.5 pounds!

I feel better, clothes fit better and the weight keeps on dropping. I'm happy.

Weigh-in Wednesday

2.9 pounds!

What a week! Have to love seeing a big drop in weight, especially when you were expecting to see a gain, as I was! It wasn't that I ate terrible this past week, I just wasn't as strict as I could have been. Maybe the lax in eating standards kick started the old metabolism?

Anyone else been experimenting lately with diets/exercise routines to knock off a few pounds?

Reading, interrupted

Ever started a really good book, feverishly read the first half of the book in a day or two, and then, lose interest in the book entirely?

No?

Apparently I'm the only one.

For whatever reason, every book I've read in the last couple of years (outside of The Hunger Games series), I've started, read a good chunk of the book, and then just stopped. Sometimes it's because I'm too tired to read, sometimes because something with flashing lights catches my attention... whatever the case may be, if I start a book, I'm likely to never finish it.

If this all sounds like an exaggeration, it's not. Currently on my Nook, I have read halfway through the following books (and yet to finish)...

- The Whore of Akron

 - Dogs of Babel

- Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

- Wheat Belly

- Those Guys Have All The Fun

- World War Z

At first I pretended my lack of desire to finish the books was due to the material; after six straight books that have resulted in me stalling at the halfway point, my tune has changed. No longer is it a book problem, it's a ME problem.

Maybe I should start AND finish reading a self help book to self diagnose. Then again, maybe I'll just read half.

Weigh-in Wednesday

I struggle with my weight. Always have, likely always will.  At my worst, I've ballooned to 250 lbs. at my best I've slimmed down to 185. Currently, as the photo above shows, I'm at 199 lbs.

All my life I've been "overweight". People have described me as fat, a few extra pounds, and yes, big boned. Whatever the case may be, I've always managed to carry a few extra pounds around my midsection. Try as I might, I've never found the key to successfully losing weight, and keeping it off.

You see, I'm what dietitians like to call a yo-yo dieter. Have a hot new diet out on the market? I've likely tried it. In the past six months alone, I've been a vegan, I've ate a diet high in protein while low in fat, and for the past two weeks I've been living a gluten free lifestyle. All three diets brought great results, but, and there's always a but...

BUT, the problem, of course, is that once my body adapts to the new way of eating, I stop losing the weight. Usually this occurs when I reach the 200 lbs. mark. At 5'10", 200 lbs. doesn't look terrible on me, especially when I'm clothed, but I can, and should, do better.

Ideally I'd like to weight 175 lbs. At 175, BMI (Body Mass Index) will list me as "normal" in terms of body weight. Of course, BMI does not account for the difference in muscle (which I have very little of) and fat (copious amounts), but it does make for a nice guideline to follow when trying to hit your goals.

Another way to stay on track and hit your goals is to be open and accountable for your weight. This is where my blog comes in to play. Every Wednesday, I'll post my weight. I don't care if I've gained five pounds or lost five pounds I will make it a priority to put a photo of my weight on this blog each and every week. At times, I'm sure it won't be easy, but as you may have figured out already, weight loss has never been something that came easily to me.

Every tradition needs a beginning, today is that moment.

What year is it?

Well, it's been a while, but, after nearly four years of inactivity I've decided to give personal blogging another go.

As for what to expect? You've probably got just as good of an idea as to what's going to be filling up this digital space as I do... so if there's anything particular you want me to blog about, drop me a line and let me know.
